Bishops’ Hearts – by Matthew Stewart

(El Convento de Santa Clara, Zafra)

an order for biscuits through the mesh
and solid silence. Her fingers count

the Corazones de Obispo,
stroking their almond-encrusted shells.
A hatch revolves. The hearts have gone.
