Tidy Beach – by Anne Micklethwaite

Winter beach looked tidy.
Imprint of paws, hooves,
Feet, smoothed by tides
Restless fret into order;
Except tide line jumble,
Tangled rope, plastic bags,
Dropped shoes, old bones,
Detritus of many kinds
Among dead sea weed;
Tiny crabs hid here
Fed from this bounty,
Held conference among
Man’s discarded history.

Anne Micklethwaite has been writing poetry for more than thirty years. Her work has most recently appeared in ‘Southlight’ poetry magazine. She is a member of Crichton Writers.
