The Calculus of Courage – by Robert Beveridge

your body against the wall
sagged, bloodied
no longer afraid for fear
comes with anticipation,
not defeat. They did not get
the money in your shoe,
or the picture
of your gerbil
you keep under your collar.
They cut your hatband
but left your suspenders
pristine.

Robert Beveridge makes noise (xterminal.bandcamp.com) and writes poetry just outside Cleveland, OH. Recent/upcoming appearances in Chiron Review, Zombie Logic Review, and The Literateur, among others.
